Gold Beach Oregon, on the sunny southern Oregon coast, has sunshine all summer long.
There are few frills here.
Go down to the port and have breakfast by the modest dock.
Rent a little Victorian house with lace curtains and walk to the shops. Buy nautical reminders of your fantastic vacation in the sun of the southern Oregon coast.
Have coffee at one of the coffee shops lining downtown.
Fish on the Rogue river, or just rent a kayak to see rural rivers as they once were, and still are, here on the wild southern coast!
Visit one of the little antique shops or see the several museums for some interesting history of the area. Read about the gold that once lined the shores, how they boated the Port Orford cedar into town to build the Presbyterian church, the ancient logging industry that once thrived.
Feed the sea lions and seagulls that beg from the fisherman at the river. Wince as Momma deer leads her baby across busy Hwy 101, then chuckle as she eats the flower tops off the garden someone has slaved over so long. Oh what a treat those flowers are for her!
Visit "Jetty Cat Village" where local volunteers feed and provide shelter for the homeless cats of the area.
Visit the wide black pepper sand beaches to search for treasure left behind by the sea. Beautiful agate rocks that have been rounded and smoothed and polished by the sand and water are lovely souvenirs of this rocky coast.
Drive a few miles in either direction and experience breathtaking vistas overlooking Gold Beach from the south and the north.
Stop at all of the roadside park areas that you come to. Each one has a scene that is prettier than the one you saw a few minutes before. Hike in the forests of Curry county to see some of the most abundant varieties of trees, birds, and flowers in the country.
Drive just 40 miles to the south to visit ancient redwood forests.
Fish in one of the best fishing spots you can imagine.
Windsurf (or surf) some fantastic waves in a semi-protected cove where huge boulders stand guard around you.
Take a whale watching excursion into the ocean of the Pacific.
Spend the day trail riding on horseback.
Pack a picnic and walk along the coastal walking trail. Or bring a bike and ride the coast roads for a close look at nature.
Visit hundreds of nearby attractions that include the real working fisherman's port in Port Orford, the lily farms of south Curry county, the light houses of the southern Oregon coast, the busy tourist town of Bandon, the Cranberry bog farms of the coast, and so much more. Fill your days with horseback riding, golf, hiking, fishing, beach combing, or just enjoying the sunshine of this southern coast.
