Bandon By-the-Sea

On the south coast of Oregon, Bandon is the busiest village for the tourist.  Bandon has made a real effort to create a place for the visitor to shop by converting the old down-town into an interesting collection of small shops.  The old town sits on the port, so you may stroll the candy shops, clothing stores, and galleries, then stroll to the dock to see the boats and exhibits.   Parking is somewhat limited, but once you find a place to put the vehicle, you should plan to spend a few hours walking up and down the old-town shops and enjoying the restaurants.

The weather is moderate, and you will need a sweater most days, often you will see fog and sometimes a lot of wind.  But you can plan to stay at one of the many small motels or campgrounds, be aware that this is a busy town and you may want reservations.

You will be able to sample chocolates made from the local cranberries in downtown Bandon.  Just south of town ask about the cranberry bogs, you will see them as you drive down 101, but some have tours and gift shops where you can purchase all kinds of cranberry products.

Bandon has a nice lighthouse just north of town. Just across the bridge, look for the turn-off to the west.  A nice stop area allows you to park and walk to the lighthouse, and to the beach.

The Bandon area is a great place for the whole family, with plenty to see and do for a full day.  As with most of the small coastal towns, everything is pretty much located on Hwy 101, so there is not any way to miss the best of Bandon.

By now you have probably heard of the golf resort called Bandon Dunes, you have many choices of places to play golf in Bandon!

For a lovely Villa near Bandon, see the Shelter Cove oceanfront, or the hilltop Osprey House
