Sometimes a vacation means just what it says. It means a vacation away from it all. We know just the place for this type of vacation, and that is the southern coast of Oregon. Many people do not realize that Oregon brags some of the finest beaches around. From the black sand beaches of the southern end of the state to the white sand beaches in mid state, to the pebble beaches to be found in some areas of the northern coast, Oregon's wide beaches offer a solitude and a portrait of nature that is not found today in very many other places.
Temperatures are mild on the wild southern coast. You have heard that it rains in Oregon? Well try visiting the "banana belt" of the coast, the south coast has very little rain or drizzle during the summer months. It is actually a very dry region. The temperatures are very mild, with highs usually in the sunny 70's, and lows in the high 50's to 60's. Even winter time is pretty mild, with the occasional big storm to stir everything up! Winter does see rain though, which is wonderful for the trees and plants in the area.
What is there to do? The southern coast
offers much solitude. Hiking, cycling, boating, horseback riding, and
seeing the best of nature are the primary activities. You will also want
to visit the working port of Port Orford, the nearby Redwood Forest, the
cranberry bogs of Bandon, the cheese factory and chocolate factory there
too. You might want to spend a day on the dunes of Florence and visit the
Sea Lion Caves just north. There is much to see and do in the area, plan
to spend a week in this peaceful land.
